To celebrate what would have been Newport News Icon Pearl Bailey's 92nd birthday, The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center will honor Pearl Bailey with a comedy showcase the last weekend of March to annually celebrate her many talents as a celebrated comedienne, singer, entertainer and comedy as an art form. Kicking off this annual event will be National Comedian/Actress Cocoa Brown who hails from Newport News along with some special guests! Tickets are $10. Call the Box Office at 757-247-8969. |
| MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts is the first statewide celebration of its kind. Between March and June of 2010, thousands of special events will occur to honor contributions by women to arts and culture. Any individual or group can participate by presenting at least one public program focused on women. |
